Kampong Phluk Floating village:
At Kampong Phluk, the majority of the homes in these villages are built on stilts.
The village’s name translates to “harbor of the tusks,” referring to the three towns that line this region’s main entrance to Tonle Sap Lake.
The distance from Siem Reap, is just over 30 kilometers, making it an excursion that can be easily completed in half a day. Compared to traveling to some of the other communities, the river trip and the road trip are rather quick and easy.
From the village to the lake, because the lake is the most important location, a personal ferry service will take you there after passing through the village.
The community relies primarily on fishing and shrimp farming to provide for its members, although during the dry season, they also gather some crops from the land. As Kampong Phluk is a working village, most people who live there are focused on their profession, completely separate from the tourism industry buzzing past their doors.
Local life, it may be interesting to go right past the locals’ houses to get a glimpse of another way of life, but it may also feel quite invasive. As we said earlier, consider that the residents are not involved in the industry, nor do they benefit from it. As a result, there are no general activities that tourists may generally undertake in Kampong Phluk.
A genuine experience, a local guide can guide take you through the mangroves or flooded forest in one of the nearby tiny boats. In addition, a few restaurants are floating, and visiting this area helps the local tourism business in many ways.
Kompong Phluk Floating Village in Dry Season
The end of March to the end of July is a crucial time in Kompong Phluk floating villages, as the water levels start to recede and present a unique opportunity for tourists to experience a new perspective. Although the picturesque landscape of the floating community may lose some of its charm during this time, visitors have a chance to immerse themselves in the daily life of the villagers living in the dried season. While some boats may become stuck, and smaller canoes may be unable to traverse the jungle forest, these challenges add to the thrill of the experience.
The dry season in Kompong Phluk may not be the ideal time to visit for those seeking postcard-perfect photos, but it offers a chance to witness a facet of the village’s daily life that is not typically seen. As they say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
We encourage travelers to embrace this rare chance to witness a different facet of this incredible destination and truly get a taste of life in Kompong Phluk.

Angkor Wat Sunrise Tour
Is Angkor Wat a sun temple?
The primary tower of the Angkor Wat temple is oriented in such a way that it faces the rising sun on the vernal equinox and the autumnal equinox.
Angkor Wat faces west rather than east, in contrast to the majority of other Khmer temples in the region.
Many historians have arrived at the conclusion that as a result of this, Suryavarman intended for it to serve as his funeral temple. The fact that the temple was built in such a manner led them to this conclusion, and it was based on this fact alone.
In the construction of Angkor Wat, what kinds of stones were used?
The construction of Angkor Wat was carried out primarily with the use of sandstone and laterite as its principal building materials (a clayey soil and rock material rich in iron and aluminum).
Sandstone was the principal building material that was used in the construction of the elements of the temple that were visible to visitors. The construction of the majority of the hidden structures involved the use of laterite.

Why travel so far to see Koh Ker?
The mountains of Dangrek, Kulen, and Tbeng may be seen in the background of the jungle setting of Koh Ker.
Koh Ker is nearly as huge as the Angkor complex, spanning 81 square kilometers over its entirety; yet, due to its more distant location, it has suffered greater damage and pillage over the course of its history.
If you go at the right time of year, you might find the ruins hidden in the foliage and thick vegetation, but at other times of the year they might be completely visible amongst the bare trees.
– Koh Ker is one of the temple locations from the Angkor period that has received the least amount of research.
– Since Koh Ker has just been half excavated, there is a good chance that you will discover something that has been hidden.
– Since much of the information researchers had gathered about the place during the Khmer Rouge was destroyed, the location is essentially indecipherable.
Koh Ker incredible facts – 4 reasons to go now!
– Archaeological Site Koh Ker is located in northern Cambodia and is approximately 75 miles from the ancient city of Angkor and the city of Siem Reap.
– In this jungle-covered area, there are only a few people.
– In an 81-square-kilometer protected region, researchers discovered almost 180 sanctuaries.
– Tourists can only see approximately a dozen of the many sanctuaries concealed in the forest because the entire area hasn’t been completely demined.

A Full-Day Excursion to Reveal the Mysterious
A hidden treasure lies beyond the commotion of Siem Reap. There are more than 50 temples and stupas perched on the edge of a cliff in the ancient city of Kulen, many of which have not yet been discovered by mainstream travelers.
Explore a historically significant region by straying far from the beaten path. This day trip takes you to the “Age of Angkor” and Buddha’s preferred location on Earth.
A hike to Kulen Waterfall and National Park will reward you with breathtaking views of the surrounding forested mountains and a refreshing dip in one of Cambodia’s tallest cascading waterfalls. We will traverse kilometers of intricate back trails, deep jungle tracks, and hidden temples, including the beautiful and highly sought-after stone elephant and lion statues.
When is the best time to visit?
The dry season, which lasts from November to March, is the most popular time to visit Kulen Mountain and Waterfall. These days are cooler and dryer, but they are also the busiest, so expect crowds. Despite the fact that these are technical “winter” months, weather conditions are still quite warm.

Why visit Banteay Srey?
One of the most impressive structures at Angkor is the Banteay Srey temple, which can be found around 29 kilometers (18 miles) to the northeast of Angkor Wat.
One of the rare temples in the Angkor region to have been commissioned not by a king but rather by a Brahman, Banteay Srey is believed to have been a tutor to Jayavarman V during his reign.
Banteay Srey temple is home to some of the most beautiful and elaborate carvings that can be found anywhere in Angkor.
One of the most, if not the most, decorated temples in the Angkor complex in Cambodia is called Banteay Srey. This Hindu temple in Cambodia dates back to the 10th century and is well-known for the stunning pinkish sandstone and complex wall carvings that it features.
The temple is dedicated to the god Shiva.
Banteay Srey, The Lady Temple, it is also referred to as The Jewel of Khmer Art. Many also call it the “pink temple.” Banteay Srey gets this nickname from the pinkish color of the sandstone that was used in its construction.
This sandstone is malleable and can be carved like wood. This helps explain why there are so many different kinds of ornamental embellishment spread across the entire building. Nearly every surface that may be used has elaborate depictions of various stories and designs on it.
The temple, located in an isolated region, was found again in 1914 and cleaned up around ten years after that. During the 1930s, it was restored by the French conservator Henri Marchal, who used the anastylosis process to put it back together again.
It is recommended that you go during the cooler parts of the day, which will also provide you with the best opportunity to capture some breathtaking pictures of the pink temple as the light changes.

Why is Ta Prohm temple famous?
Because of its attractive and entrancing combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the forest environs, Ta Prohm is one of the temples in Angkor that attracts the greatest number of visitors. Ta Prohm is one of the few Angkorian temples that has remained in much the same state in which the first explorers found it.
In our experience, all guests love taking pictures there and feeling the unique temple atmosphere.
Do you remember the movie, Tomb Raider?
Where exactly did they film Tomb Raider? Angkor Wat or Ta Prohm?
Parts of the movie starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, which was released in 2001, were shot at Ta Prohm.
In one scene, she walks past the towers in the southeast corner, continues along a ruinous corbelled roof section, walks past the iconic tree that has grown out of the enclosure, and picks a jasmine flower in front of the other iconic tree that frames the enclosure doorway in the central enclosure. All of these scenes were filmed at Ta Prohm.

Know Before You Go
About:
– Angkor Wat was built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II and is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.
– Located just north of Siem Reap, the isolated Phnom Kulen Mountain range is formed of sandstone and is widely regarded as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. Phnom Kulen has now returned to government hands after the fall of the Khmer Rouge and is still fairly inaccessible because of the poor road conditions, especially in the rainy season.
– Kompong Krei Bridge was known by its original name, “Spean Preah Toeus”, which means “The Bridge of indication” in the Khmer language. This bridge is an attractive tourist destination that cannot be ignored when visiting Siem Reap – the former capital of the ancient kingdom of Angkor in Cambodia. The Kompong Kdei spans the Chi Kreng River with 86 meters long, 16 meters wide and 10 meters high above the level of the river bed. The bridge is recognized as the longest corbelled stone–arch bridge in the world, with 21 corbel arches sustained by 20 pillars, all of which are made of laterite. There are four big 9 – headed Naga statues engraved with sophisticated carvings on the end of the parapet. The figure of Naga is so sacred to Cambodian people that they worship Naga as a God, giving them love and protection for their life and their country.
– Royal Palace, Phnom Penh: Gleaming in gold, the Royal Palace is one of Phnom Penh’s most splendid architectural achievements. It is home to His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk and Her Majesty Preah Reach Akka-Mohesey Norodom Monineath. The palace was built in 1866 by His Majesty Preah Bat Norodom, great grandfather to our current King. The Royal Palace is built on the site of the old town. This site was specially chosen by a Commission of Royal Ministers and Astrologers because it had great geographical significance in relation to the King, who was regarded as a direct descendant of the gods, whose role was to live and govern on earth under the influence of heaven.
– Silver Pagoda, Phnom Penh: Within the Royal Palace compound is the extravagant Silver Pagoda, also known as Wat Preah Keo or Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It is so named for its floor, which is covered with five tons of gleaming silver. You can sneak a peek at some of the 5000 tiles near the entrance, but most are covered to protect them.
– The National Museum, Phnom Penh: Located just north of the Royal Palace, the National Museum of Cambodia is housed in a graceful terracotta structure of traditional design (built from 1917 to 1920), with an inviting courtyard garden. The museum is home to the world’s finest collection of Khmer sculptures: a millennium’s worth and more of masterful Khmer design.
– The Killing Field: Between 1975 and 1978, about 17,000 men, women, children and infants (including nine westerners), detained and tortured at S-21 prison (now Tuol Sleng Museum), were transported to the extermination to death to avoid wasting precious bullets. The remains of 8985 people, many of whom were bound and blindfolded, were exhumed in 1980 from mass graves. 43 of the 129 communal graves here have been left untouched. Fragments of human bone and bits of cloth are scattered around the disinterred pits. Over 8000 skulls, arranged by sex, are visible behind the clear glass panels of the Memorial Stupa, which was erected in 1988. The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek are 15 km from Central Phnom Penh. To get there, take Monireth Blvd south-westward out of the city from the Dang Kor Market bus depot. The site is 8.5 km from the bridge near 271 St. A memorial ceremony is held annually at Choeung Ek on 9 May.
– Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum S21: In 1975, Tuol Svay Prey High School was taken over by Pol Pot’s security forces and turned into a prison known as Security Prison 21 (S-21); it soon became the largest centre of detention and torture in the country. S-21 has been turned into the Tuol Sleng museum, which serves as a testament to the crimes of the Khmer Rouge.
– Dress standards are conservative throughout Asia, especially outside major cities. To respect this and for your own comfort, please wear modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the hot Asian climate. Comfortable shoes are a must. The Apsara Authority, which manages the park, reserves the right to refuse entry to certain areas of the site for guests who wear clothing that is considered immodest. No smoking, drinking alcohol, or touching the carvings is permitted in and around the temples.

Why is Angkor Wat so famous?
Nestled within the province of Siem Reap in Cambodia lies the vast Angkor Archaeological Park, a crown jewel of the country’s tourist hotspots. Hidden within the dense rainforest undergrowth, you’ll discover the towering remnants of an ancient stone city, echoing tales of a bygone era.
Cambodia boasts a rich assortment of temples and structures, yet the one that consistently captures the most fascination is the monumental Angkor Wat. Its prominence is such that it graces the country’s national flag – a testament to its cultural and historical significance.
Built in the 12th century, this majestic “temple-mountain” was originally designed to serve as the dwelling place for the Hindu deity, Vishnu. Its architectural grandeur and historical relevance make it a must-visit destination for any traveler exploring Cambodia.
The bas-relief galleries on many of the walls of one of the most spectacular temples in Cambodia depict themes from Cambodian mythology and culture that extend back hundreds of years.
Is Angkor Wat a sun temple?
– The primary tower of the Angkor Wat temple is oriented in such a way that it faces the rising sun on the vernal equinox and the autumnal equinox.
– Angkor Wat faces west rather than east, in contrast to the majority of other Khmer temples in the region.
Many historians have arrived at the conclusion that as a result of this, Suryavarman intended for it to serve as his funeral temple. The fact that the temple was built in such a manner led them to this conclusion, and it was based on this fact alone.
Reveal the Mysterious of Kulen mountain
The Great of Lingam Temple
– Properties and Spiritual Powers
– Healing Energy, Geology and History
The nearest monuments to the main temple complex of Koh Ker of Prasat Thom are five isolated temples belonging to the Northeast group. Each of them housed a monolithic decorated Lingam of enormous size on equally immense Yoni pedestals, which symbolizes the female genitals. That is why the five unique structures are called Linga-temples, named from G to K and numbered from 277 to 281.
All Linga temples open to Rahal. They are square towers and now without a roof. These five sandstone towers were wider and taller than their predecessors at Roluos and Angkor. The increased size of the building and the Lingams, which are some of the greatest known in Khmer art, is a remarkable feature of the architecture of Koh Ker. Lunet die Lajonquière assumed that this development in size was only manageable, extending the use of woodworking.

Cambodia Circus Performance Nightly
Cambodia’s Best Modern Cultural Performance
More than just a circus, Phare performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent, making Phare Circus the top-rated modern cultural performance in Siem Reap.
Phare artists are students and graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak’s vocational training center in Battambang. The association was formed in 1994 by 9 young men coming home from a refugee camp after the Khmer Rouge regime. They were greatly helped during that time by an art teacher using drawing classes as therapy and wanted to share this new skill among the poor, socially deprived and troubled youngsters in Battambang. They founded an art school and public school followed to offer free education. A music school and theatre school were next and finally, for the kids who wanted more, the circus school. Today more than 1,200 pupils attend the public school daily and 500 attend the alternative schools. Phare Ponleu Selpak also has extensive outreach programs, trying to help with the problems highlighted in their own tales.
Phare The Cambodian Circus offers these students and graduates somewhere to hone their skills and a place to earn a decent wage. Money that will take them out of poverty and give them self-respect and freedom.

What is Bokator Martial Art?
The story of Bokator, a gem in Cambodia’s cultural crown, is one that echoes through time, resonating with the strength, resilience, and artistry of a nation. With roots stretching back over a millennium, Bokator emerged as a comprehensive martial art that drew inspiration from the movements of animals and the rhythm of battle.
The Bokator practitioners:
Adorned in traditional garb that harkens back to a time when warriors were revered, move with the grace of dancers and the precision of warriors. Each movement is imbued with the wisdom of centuries, a seamless fusion of human and animal forms that mirror the connection between man and nature.
Witness the powerful strikes that were once wielded on battlefields, the intricate locks that guarded ancient secrets, and the deft footwork that danced with danger. Yet, beyond the spectacle of combat, Bokator transcends mere martial prowess. It embodies discipline, respect, and the profound balance between strength and serenity.
In a world where cultural heritage can be fleeting, our commitment to preserving and celebrating Bokator aligns with our dedication to authentic experiences. History
Khmer people own a number of various boats, including the boats used by navy in a war to win a victory cover Cham in the reign of King Jayavarman VII. According to the post-1177’s study, Khmer battle boats in the Angkor Period have had different length from 17-27 meters. Which cloud load about 15 to 21 people. Twenty-nine of the ancient boat sculptures in Bayon temple are seen, demonstrating the courage of navy in the King Jayavaraman VII’s period. The archaeologists illustrate that the ancient Khmer boats and Cham boats carved in the wall of Bayon temple are the victory of the King Jayavaraman VII’s navy force oever Cham’s navy in the war after 1177 A.D.
Noticeably added, in the 5th century A. D’s Nokor Phnom period, they were the Chinese memoir in the reign of Qi in the South China, revealing that the ancient Khmer boats were about 1.5 to 1.8 meters in width and about 24 to 25 meters in length. The features of those ancient boats are the Makara’s head sculpture and Hamsa-Spraying Garuda’s Sculpture while some other boats had no special features on the bow. In the same way, the sculptures of Dragon’s tail and Hamsa’s tail were seen at the stern of the boat.
With reference to the study on those ancient boat sculptures, we saw that the naval armed forces were efficiently and strictly organized in the King Jayavaraman’s Angkorean period. More noticeably, the water battle between Khmer and Cham naval soldiers was done along the Tonle Sap River, not far from Phnom Krom, where was recognized as the entrance of the Khmer empire.

The Khmer term “Chrung” (pronounced “tshrong”) means “corner” or “angle”. That’s the name of the location, the four corners of the city walls of Angkor Thom. Prasat Chrung temples were dedicated to the Bodhisattva Lokeshvara (Avalokiteshvara), the same Mahayana saviour to whom the central Bayon temple of Angkor Thom was dedicated.

These depictions date back to when the temple was built.
– This area of the ancient city is home to some of the most interesting and distinctive structures in the entire city.
When you realize that Angkor was constructed in the 12th century, it is even more astonishing that it is still regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular architectural wonders. Even with the highly developed technologies that are currently at the disposal of contemporary architects, it is difficult to see them constructing anything quite as beautiful as Angkor Wat.
This structure is filled with a variety of architectural details, some of which include intricate carvings, bas reliefs, corridors, towers, baths, libraries, and moats. And the quality of each of them has, for the most part, remained the same during the period of their existence.
– It served as the seat of government for the Khmer Empire for a sizeable chunk of that empire’s existence.
The Khmer Empire left a significant architectural legacy behind for future generations, the most notable example of which is Angkor Wat. Large portions of Southeast Asia were governed by a monarchy influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism beginning in the year 802 A.D. and continuing until the collapse of Angkor Wat in the 15th century.
This reign lasted until Angkor Wat was destroyed. According to the findings of archaeological digs, the ancient city of Angkor was one of the most populous cities in the world prior to the advent of industrialization (during the 11th and 12th centuries).
This event took place at the height of Angkor’s prosperity when it was at its most prosperous. Angkor Wat served as the capital of the Khmer Empire from the year 802 to the year 1295.
– When it was first found, UNESCO immediately declared it to be a World Heritage Site and has kept that designation ever since.
In the year 1992, Angkor Archaeological Park was recognized by UNESCO as a deserving candidate for the prestigious designation of World Heritage Site.
Because this area is home to some of the most amazing works of art and architecture from the ancient world, the Khmer Empire, also known as the Angkor Empire, decided to place its capitals here. The Khmer Empire is also known as the Angkor Empire.
