The Banteay Srei Backcountry Tour covers six incredible temples in one day, but honestly, the star of the show is Banteay Srei itself. This Banteay Srei Tour takes you way beyond the usual tourist path to see the “Jewel of Khmer Art” plus five other temples that each tell entirely different stories, from Pre Rup’s panoramic mountain views to the gems like Ta Som and East Mebon. What makes this Banteay Srei Tour special is the small groups (just 10 people max), modern air-conditioned transport, and expert guides. You’ll start at 8:30 AM with easy Pre Rup, hit the stunning pink sandstone masterpiece during perfect lighting, then spend the afternoon checking out four more diverse temples before heading back to Siem Reap by 4 PM.

One of the most impressive structures at Angkor is the Banteay Srey temple, which can be found around 29 kilometers (18 miles) to the northeast of Angkor Wat.
One of the rare temples in the Angkor region to have been commissioned not by a king but rather by a Brahman, Banteay Srey is believed to have been a tutor to Jayavarman V during his reign.
Banteay Srey temple is home to some of the most beautiful and elaborate carvings that can be found anywhere in Angkor.
One of the most, if not the most, decorated temples in the Angkor complex in Cambodia is called Banteay Srey. This Hindu temple in Cambodia dates back to the 10th century and is well-known for the stunning pinkish sandstone and complex wall carvings that it features.
Banteay Srey, The Lady Temple, it is also referred to as The Jewel of Khmer Art. Many also call it the “pink temple.” Banteay Srey gets this nickname from the pinkish color of the sandstone that was used in its construction.
This sandstone is malleable and can be carved like wood. This helps explain why there are so many different kinds of ornamental embellishment spread across the entire building. Nearly every surface that may be used has elaborate depictions of various stories and designs on it.
The temple, located in an isolated region, was found again in 1914 and cleaned up around ten years after that. During the 1930s, it was restored by the French conservator Henri Marchal, who used the anastylosis process to put it back together again.
It is recommended that you go during the cooler parts of the day, which will also provide you with the best opportunity to capture some breathtaking pictures of the pink temple as the light changes.
